ROSES’ FISH “SUQUET”

ROSES’ FISH “SUQUET”

ROSES’ FISH “SUQUET” Roses’ cultural wealth is also found at the table. As dynamic as the town, the local cuisine has experienced a series of changes and evolutions. The town’s traditional fishermen created a recipe based on a combination of fresh products. In coves or at home "Suquet" was cooked, a simple dish of freshly caught fish boiled with potatoes. Over time, this homemade recipe has been enriched with the incorporation of typically Mediterranean products, giving rise to different versions of this dish. The restaurants taking part in the “Suquet de Peix de Roses” campaign present various versions of this traditional fisherman’s dish, as well as offering a wide range of wines from the Empordā region.

LA BISBAL

The image a lot of people have of the capital of El Baix Empordā is the one they see when crossing the village by the road from Girona to the coast. If you enter the village from Girona, its importance as the capital of pottery is absolutely justified. A large row of shops dedicated to the selling of ceramics goes from the outskirts to the centre.

The image you get when crossing La Bisbal is not the only one. On the right riverside of the Darķ there is a large old quarter - known as the village by the inhabitants - formed by a small maze of little streets and squares full of attractive features. the Plaįa Major, which had once been covered by a big roof, is the centre.

The quality of the clay and craftsmanship tradition have made la Bisbal d'Empordā the capital of ceramics and pottery.
Those who go to La Bisbal, attracted by its fame as a ceramic centre, can complete the visit by going to the Museu de la Cerāmica (Ceramics Museum) where important collections of pieces made in La Bisbal and other ceramic centres are kept. Placed in the old factory Terracota, the building is now being rehabilitated and several shows and activities are scheduled there.

Whether on Friday or not, visitors to the capital of El Baix Empordā cannot leave without entering some of the famous bakeries and eating their specialities. The most typical is "The Bisbalenc", which combines with great balance and exquisiteness several ingredients used in traditional confectionery. We must not forget "the Rus" or many biscuits and pastries that delight even the most demanding sweet-tooth.
