The Hotel Canyelles Platja enjoys a privileged location, where nature and culture have thriven and often come together. Within an area of only 30 Km around, you will be able to enjoy four Natural Parks and Reserves (Aigüamolls, Albera, Cap de Creus and Illes Medes).
You will see and feel the ancient history of Roses and Empúries (Neolithic, Greece and Roma). The medieval history of Castelló d´Empúries, Perelada or Besalú, with its castles and walls, or visit a marvellous architectural achievement of the Romanic, a current of architecture which some argue was born in l´Empordà: the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. The historic centre of Girona with your Cathedral and Call (Jewish quarter) finished the cultural visit to North-East of Catalonia.
You will be able to enjoy adventure sports, parachuting in Empuriabrava, Golf in Perelada and Torremirona, skin dewing in Cap de Creus, nautical-sport in the Port of Roses, boat hiking with underwater-sight in the Bay of Roses.
Obviously, it would be unforgettable to leave without having visited the magic Figueres-Púbol-Port Lligat triangle created by one of the most fascinating genius of the XXth Century: Salvador Dalí, and all together accompanied with delicious and typical local meat and the extraordinary sunset between the Gulf of Roses and the mountains of Pyrenees, that will make every journey unforgettable.

We should bear in mind that these wetlands are part of those which, when the Greeks disembarked at Empúries, occupied the entire plain of the Bay of Roses and of the Lower Ter, the marshland area between the Muga and the Fluvià rivers, with a surface area of 4783.5 hectares, divided into 9 municipal areas and organised in two zones to the north and south of the River Muga.

Banyoles, the capital of the area "EI Pla de l'Estany", is a small town with 15,000 inhabitants. You take highway A-17 (from Barcelona to France) and leave it at exit No 10 (Girona- Nord) which lies at 100 Km from Barcelona and 49 Km from La Jonquera. Banyoles is at 13 Km from that point.

Besalú is situated in La Garrotxa at the point where two rivers, the Fluvià and the Capellades, meet.
Besalú was the capital of the then independent county up until the death of Bernat III when it fell under the control of the count of Barcelona.

El Port de la Selva is a typical seaside town. The first thing to be seen on arriving at the town are its white houses which contrast with the blue of the sky. The other feature is the mountainous landscape.

THE MUSEUM OF PERALADA CASTLE
Inside the old Monastery of Carme, a building dating from the 14th Century, is one of the most spectacular private collections in the whole of Catalonia.
The former cloister, together with the church, are two of the original areas of the monastery which may be visited.

PERALADA: A MEDIEVAL VILLAGE IN THE HEART OF THE EMPORDÀ REGION
Around the year 500 BC, a group of natives of the Iberian tribe built what would be the first walled village of Peralada.

Villages that preserve their medieval essence: the castle, the keep and the main square.

Medieval Púbol castle-during the 1970s the residence of Dali's wife and in the early-1980s his own -was opened to the public in 1996 as the GALA DALÍ CASTLE HOUSE-MUSEUM.

Pedró of Pals. The centre of the village is known by this name, on the top of a hill that once dominated an area of lakes and ponds.

THE CITADEL:
This military compound is situated to your right hand when you drive in direction to Figueres.

The town of Llança is mentioned for the first time by the name of Lancia Town in the 10th century (year 974), situated in the Lancian Valley.
It is 12 kilometres away form the French-Spanish border, passing Portbou. Until a few decades ago the port and the town were clearly seperated, today they form a homogeneous whole with more than 5.000 inhabitants, whose most important activities are fishing and tourism.

The image a lot of people have of the capital of El Baix Empordà is the one they see when crossing the village by the road from Girona to the coast. If you enter the village from Girona, its importance as the capital of pottery is absolutely justified. A large row of shops dedicated to the selling of ceramics goes from the outskirts to the centre.

The festivals form part of the tradition and history of l'Escala, the passing of time has changed a lot of habits but there are festivals that remain alive in l'Escala: the carnaval, the summer concerts, the anchovy festival, the giants' reunion, the Sardana dancers, etc.

Situated in the peninsula of cap de Creus and with a port, protected from the north wind with the land rising by just about 600 metres called Pení, and with a special luminosity, Cadaqués straight away transmits a revealing personality.
It is one of the more well known localities of the Costa Brava, due to the cultural activities there, especially in the summer, and also for being a stepping stone to Portlligat, for many years the summer quarters of Salvador Dalí.

Portlligat, where you will find Salvador Dalí's house, with big eggs on the top, which was the "divine" surrealist's residence and refuge of inspiration.

The city of Girona and its region, called the Gironès. More than a thousand years of history watch over this small, harmonious city, which has managed with the utmost of care to preserve the legacy of all the eras and sensitivities that have left their mark on the city.
